Should I Choose Dental Crowns or Bridges?
Dental crowns and dental bridges are ideal for patients in good oral health who have no underlying issues, such as gum disease, that could harm their restorations. Both dental crowns and dental bridges require that teeth be reduced in size to comfortably accommodate the restoration. Once in place, however, crowns and bridges offer a durable and long-term alternative to damaged, discolored, or missing teeth.
Dental crowns restore structure and strength to teeth that have minor functional or cosmetic flaws. A worn or cracked tooth, a tooth with a large filling, or a permanently discolored tooth can all benefit from dental crowns. Dental crowns are also used to protect a tooth after a root canal, restore a dental implant, or anchor a dental bridge.
Dental bridges replace one or more missing teeth. Dental bridges are made up of a series of dental crowns that attach to the two teeth on either side of the gap. Bonded securely to adjacent teeth, dental bridges help keep existing teeth from shifting out of place and restore biting and chewing power to the area.
